Does a Metal Roof Attract Lightning

The Metallbau Association has published several technical bulletins, which present research showing that metal roofs are less likely to be struck by lightning than other roofs. In this post, an expert from the US Army Corps of Engineers reveals that a metal roof is really a lightning magnet.

The Federal Roofing Authority (BKA) says that investigations have shown that the materials used in roofing construction do not influence the risk of lightning strikes. Based on the evidence available, it is more likely that metal ceilings in a building were struck by lightning than any other type of roof, “the MCA report said.
